What Are Visas?

Visas are endorsements from the government allowing a foreign national or immigrant the right to remain in the country. In the United States, the foreign national can receive a non-immigrant visa or an immigrant visa,  depending on the reason and their status,  as determined by the laws governing immigration.

Basically, every time a person enters another country they need a visa to move from country to country, even if only for vacation purposes. In most cases, the visa is nothing more than a stamp  on their passport which gives the traveler specific rights.

People wishing to permanently enter and live the United States   will be issued an immigrant visa from the Bureau of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Some  visas have limitations as to the amount of time a person can stay in the U.S.,  and will need to be renewed every year if that is the allotted time. The Bureau of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services places individuals in different categories to help determine the type of visa a person can receive.  A person wishing to enter the  United States  with family members  who are permanent U.S. residents   will receive priority, as will those  who are seeking employment in high demand careers.

To learn more about visas or to receive help in receiving a visa from the United States, you can talk with a visa attorney. He/she will be able to answer your questions and help you understand the laws governing immigration in the United Sates. The application process for both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas can be confusing. In order to ensure that the forms are filled out properly, you should consult with a qualified visa attorney.
